When you think of Nevada, you probably think of the desert of Las Vegas, but there’s much more to know about this relaxed state. Some states bordering Nevada include California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona. Nevada is in the country’s western half, so you’ll want to know plenty about it. 

1. Silver

Nevada is known as the Silver State and is home to many natural wonders, such as the Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Tahoe, and plenty of gold and silver mines, hence the nickname. 

1859, Comstock Lode was discovered, which became one of the world’s largest silver deposits. Much like the more famous Gold Rush in California, it helped to build the state’s economy and is a massive part of its history. Silver played a massive role in Nevada’s history. 2. No Income Tax

Those looking to save money will love Nevada. That’s because it is one of few, nine states being specific, that do not carry income tax. 

This means that your income will be taxed at the federal level, and the state will not take a portion. For high earners, this can mean significant savings. 

Even for the average person, it can mean hundreds, if not thousands, of tax savings annually. Keep in mind, however, that it’s not tax-free for all. Property and sales tax are still applicable. 

3. Area 51

Okay, you’ve probably heard of Area 51, but there are some details you might not know. It is a military installation Based in Nevada, only 80 miles south of Las Vegas. 

Though much of the surrounding Area 51 has been kept hush-hush, it was released in 2013 that Area 51 was legitimate.  Despite being one of the state’s biggest draws, there is no hope of getting anywhere close as the area is restricted and heavily guarded. Instead, visitors might enjoy tourist-themed spots echoing the sentiment of Area 51. 

4. Prostitution

In Nevada, prostitution is legal. Yep, you read that correctly. Solicitation is permitted, though only in certain parts of the state or licensed brothels.  The average person may not want to trek to one of these brothels, but it’s interesting to think it’s permitted at all. 

5. Size

While enormous states like Texas usually get the glory for their size, Nevada is no small spot. It spans 110,662 square miles, with its largest city being Las Vegas. 

Given this, Nevada is the seventh-largest state in the country. Not to mention, Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other state, beating out some of the most notorious mountain places like Washington and Colorado. 

6. Marijuana

Nevada permits medical marijuana use and recreational use. However, some specific rules and regulations must be adhered to. This is fitting as more of the country has legalized the plant, especially in the western half. 

Some guidelines include the user being over 21, carrying only up to one ounce at a time, and you cannot consuming in public areas – even casinos and hotels. Because rules are constantly changing, it’s best to check for updates related to your cannabis use continually. 

7. Burning Man

Ah, yes, the infamous Burning Man. It is held in Nevada. The week-long art and music festival is held in the Black Rock Desert. It began in June of 1986 when a small group of friends would burn a wooden effigy on a San Francisco beach.

Now, this festival attracts over 70,000 people from all over the world every year. If you can stand the heat, you’ll make memories that last a lifetime here. 

8. Valley of Fire State Park

If you’re a park person, you’ll love it here. The Valley of Firest State Park is the oldest and largest state park in the state and lies within the Mojave Desert. It spans 40,000 acres and officially became a part in 1935. It is known for its sandstone cliffs formed over 150 million years ago.
